Guam is an island in Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean that is familiar to Japanese people. This private compilation album from 1980 features 5 local musicians who seem to have been active there. It's also an American territory, and it contains from fusion to soul to folky songs with mellowness/urban atmosphere similar to Hawaiian and island works. Among them, Chuck McJohn's killer urban fusion "Chamorrita", Joe Cunningham's folky ballad "Kanton Langet", Mike Homfeld's urban island soul "Lady of Beauty", Chuck McJohn's mellow ballad with synth, are recommended. We guess it's a small rod production for a small island.
日本人にはお馴染みの西太平洋のミクロネシアに浮かぶ島グアム。本作はその地で活動していたと思われるローカルミュージシャン5人の楽曲を集めた80年の自主コンピレーションアルバム。アメリカ領でもありやはりハワイアンやアイランド作品に近いメロウネスやアーバンな雰囲気を持ったフュージョン～ソウル～フォーキーな楽曲を収録。中でもChuck McJohnによるキラー・アーバン・フュージョン”Chamorrita”、Joe Cunningham によるフォーキー・バラード”Kanton Langet”、Mike Homfeldによるアーバン・アイランド・ソウル”Lady of Beauty"、Chuck McJohnによるシンセの効いたメロウ・バラード”Inner Voices”などはオススメ。小さな島につき小ロッドでの生産だと思います。ゆっくり聞いてみて下さい。
