From the Edo period to the early Showa period, blind women known as ”Goze” (goze female musicians) would travel from village to village singing with a shamisen in hand. This work was recorded in 1977 and features a performance by Kikue Sugimoto, the master of the Sugimoto family, who was the last remaining Goze female musician after many of them went out of business after the war. The performance is infused with a moving heart that makes you feel the weight of Kikue's life as he was approaching his 80s. We don't think it's possible to explain each song in words, so please read through the materials and listen to this one-and-only popular drama that has disappeared. It is in good condition and comes with rare obi.
