A collection of performances of gong music ”Kulintang” by the Maranao people who live in the Lake Lanao region of Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines. It uses brass gongs similar to gamelan, and unlike the Indonesian gamelan, which has been refined as a traditional art form, it has various social roles as a public entertainment that connects communities and allows any member of the general public to participate in the performance. The variety of rhythms played in an improvisational manner seems to evoke something hot. The release is on the U.S. Lyrichord label, which introduced contemporary world music.
