David Oliver, an American multi-instrumentalist who plays jazz piano and mallet percussion. He studied world music and participated in a variety of works across genres, including reggae and hardcore, and released this 1984 album on his own label. It features the finest contemporary sounds, including “Hope For La Roo” which captivates with lush sound of detailed percussion and minimal piano melody, “Purple Day” in which marimba and percussion form a rhythmic pattern that seems to be moving toward liberation as the light shines through. Just brilliant. Recommended for those who like Conrad Seto.
ジャズピアノに加えマレットパーカッション奏者でもある米マルチプレイヤーDavid Oliver。民族音楽を学びレゲエやハードコアなどジャンルを問わない作品群への参加の傍ら自身のレーベルに残した84年の作品。細かなパーカッションとミニマルなピアノによる瑞々しい響きに心を奪われる”Hope For La Roo"、ゆったりとマリンバとパーカッションがリズムを形成しながら光が差し解放へ向かうように進んでいく”Purple Day”はじめ極上のコンテンポラリーサウンドを全編に収録。アンビエントリスナーにも刺さるサウンドが魅力ですが、Conrad Setoなどにも通じる民族音楽等を昇華したリズム感覚を是非感じて頂きたいです。ジャケットの色彩感を含め素晴らしい作品です。
